BIRD HOUSE
On the Bird House project my studio class got randomly assigned a Pritzker Prize Architect and a bird native to North Dakota and suppose to design the house the way the architect would handle the bird "client". I was chosen to have Glenn Murcutt and the Black Capped Chickadee. This was a competition juried by architects, professors, and bird conversationalists. My project won on the best design for the bird. I took Murcutt's sustainability approach and used all recycled materials from the wood to rusted metal and cans to a belt. With also keeping Murcutt's form concepts in mind when designing the correct dimensions of a Black Capped Chickadees bird house.
Above, you can see that I used an old belt to secure it to the tree since Murcutt design philosophy is "touch the earth lightly" and leave no trace, so you don't damage the tree. You can also see the rusted cans and metal since the Chickadee likes to live in flocks and like rotten homes.
